Luxury Safaris in Congo Brazzaville

The Republic of Congo, which covers an area of pristine Congo basin rainforest, has a wonderful national park in the North known as Odzala Kokua. This mysterious wilderness broccoli carpeted rainforest and natural clearings called bais, is approached by small aircraft charter from the capital Brazzaville.

There are two pioneering luxury safari camps here, operated by the highly respected Wilderness Safaris, who bring with them their conservation philosophy of preservation of wild ecosystems through high-end eco-tourism.

The highlights of a trip to do this combination of two camps, is the tracking of a group of Western Lowland Gorillas deep in the forests. Very few people have ever, or ever will, have the opportunity to track this gorilla sub-species in such a pristine environment.

However, on top of the gorillas, this is very much a walking, canoeing and mokoro experience deep with an ecosystem supporting a large diversity of primates, large tusked forest elephants, forest buffalo, the beautiful red river hog and the exceptional Bongo antelope. Distant cries of truly wild and unhabituated chimp colonies can be heard in the distant canopy.

The M'boko Airstrip, located close to Lango Camp is where the adventure begins. 430 bird species make the area a birder’s dream and it is impossible for the non-birder to not be impressed. Clients usually spend six nights in the national park staying at two different lodges, Lango and Ngaga, which are both built from locally sourced materials and creatively designed to blend with the surroundings. Both lodges have just six rooms and are run to high-end safari lodge standards with guiding to match.

Journey Programme

Comprises a combination of two camps, with stays of 3 nights in each camp.

Day 1 – 4:
Ngaga Camp - with 2 opportunities to track Westernn Lowland Gorilla groups, with tracking being the major activity

Day 5-7
Lango Camp - exploring the rainforest, its rivers and Lango Bai (natural forest opening) via walks. Kayaks and motorised pirogues
