Private Charter Fly-ins

A private charter fly-in is the ultimate in exclusive African experiences and one which allows the guest complete flexibility in terms of in-country timings, destinations and routings.

As standard, most of the lodges, camps and mobile experiences we use in Africa are connected by light aircraft, typically small to medium sized Cessna’s. These flights become experiences in themselves, offering clients the chance to survey an aerial perspective of their upcoming wilderness areas, raising anticipation and excitement. Generally, but not exclusively, the best and most authentic wilderness areas and concessions of Africa can only be reached by small aircraft landing at these remote airstrips. Many of these flights are operated by in-country charter companies as scheduled services. The more inaccessible areas sometimes only have one or two flights per week or none at all, and a complete charter is only possible.

However, a completely private charter fly-in means that we can take guests into wilderness areas with no camps for the day, and then fly them back to camps in the evening. It means clients can tailor the days to their exact specifications, not being hampered by scheduled flight departure times. It also means that the pilot becomes an additional guide on the trip, able to take you on aerial flights between locations that are otherwise unavailable on the scheduled services. Exploring the frontier regions of northern Kenya would be a good example of where a private charter fly-in can get clients in to otherwise inaccessible tribal areas.

A private Cessna plane can also be dovetailed with helicopters to get clients into areas where there are no airstrips and tighter landing spots.

Separate to this in the flying category are some of our favourite aerial experiences. Balloon safaris over the Kafue swamps in Zambia and over Namibia’s Sossusvlei dunes followed by a remote bush breakfast, or micro-lighting over the Luangwa River out of the finest owner run safari lodge in Africa and seeing the impressive Victoria Falls by helicopter. These activities can all be booked as part of a lodge to lodge tailor-made itinerary.
